Structured daytime mental health treatment at our Delray Beach, FL facility, 6 hours per day Monday through Friday, for adults with depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and trauma. In-network with Aetna, Cigna, and Florida Blue.
Partial hospitalization at Villa Behavioral Health is one of the few in-network mental health PHPs in South Florida, treating adults with depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, or trauma at our Delray Beach facility, 6 hours per day Monday through Friday. We accept Aetna, Cigna, and Florida Blue.
Partial hospitalization is the right level of care for adults whose mental health symptoms are too severe for weekly outpatient therapy but who do not require 24-hour hospital admission. Most adults entering PHP at Villa fall into one of three groups: stepping down from a recent psychiatric hospitalization, escalating up from outpatient therapy that is no longer enough, or starting structured mental health treatment for the first time at a level that matches the severity of what is happening.
You are likely a fit for PHP if any of the following is true:
The program is built for adults 18 and older. PHP is not the right level if you are in active crisis with safety concerns, severe mania or psychosis requiring continuous monitoring, or active medical detoxification. Our admissions team will help route you to the right level of care during intake.
We treat major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder, postpartum depression, and the depressive phase of bipolar disorder. PHP for depression combines daily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and behavioral activation groups with psychiatric medication management. Most adults entering PHP for moderate-to-severe depression complete 2 to 4 weeks of PHP, then step down to IOP for an additional 8 to 12 weeks
We treat generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety, and specific phobias. PHP for anxiety uses daily CBT with exposure techniques, group skills work, and psychiatric medication when needed. Common medications include SSRIs, SNRIs, and buspirone. Adults with severe anxiety that has interfered with daily functioning typically benefit most from PHP as a starting level.
We treat combat-related PTSD, sexual trauma, childhood trauma, and complex PTSD using trauma-focused CBT and structured group-based trauma work. Trauma treatment begins with stabilization (CBT and skills work) before progressing into deeper trauma processing. Treatment length is highly individual; most adults complete 6 to 12 months of active outpatient trauma work after an initial PHP or IOP phase.
We treat bipolar I, bipolar II, and cyclothymic disorder. PHP for bipolar focuses on mood stabilization through medication management (lithium, valproate, lamotrigine, quetiapine, aripiprazole, lurasidone), psychoeducation, and relapse prevention. PHP is the right level for bipolar when mood symptoms are pronounced but 24-hour psychiatric monitoring is not required. Adults experiencing acute mania or severe depression with safety concerns are referred to inpatient before initiating PHP with us.
We treat adults with childhood abuse, neglect, or developmental trauma whose presentation includes emotional dysregulation, identity disturbance, or chronic relationship patterns. Complex trauma treatment combines trauma-focused CBT, DBT-informed skills (mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness), and stabilization work. This work is longer than discrete-event PTSD; treatment plans typically run 9 to 18 months of active outpatient work after PHP.
PHP at Villa treats depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and complex trauma at our Delray Beach, FL facility. The conditions below represent the majority of PHP admissions.
PHP at Villa uses evidence-based group and individual therapy, delivered by our clinical team and overseen by our psychiatric medical staff.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the daily foundation of PHP for depression and anxiety. CBT identifies the thoughts and beliefs driving symptoms and builds new responses through structured practice in group and individual sessions.
Trauma-focused CBT is offered to adults with trauma history or PTSD. Trauma-focused work begins after initial stabilization and continues across PHP, IOP, and outpatient as clinically appropriate.
Mindfulness-based skills are integrated across the program for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and stress management.
Group therapy runs multiple times per day across skills training, process work, and psychoeducation formats.
Individual therapy is scheduled regularly during the week to apply group skills to your specific situation and goals.
Family therapy is offered when clinically relevant to support the recovery environment at home.
Psychiatric medication management is provided by our medical team led by Dr. Courtney Scott, MD. Medication review and adjustment is a routine part of PHP, especially during the first two weeks. Common medications include SSRIs (sertraline, escitalopram, fluoxetine), SNRIs (venlafaxine, duloxetine), mood stabilizers (lithium, valproate, lamotrigine), and atypical antipsychotics, prescribed when clinically indicated.
Additional evidence-based modalities, including DBT-informed skills work, are integrated into treatment plans when clinically indicated by your presentation.
The right level of care is the one that matches the severity of what is happening. PHP sits between inpatient hospitalization and intensive outpatient. The table below shows how PHP differs from the levels directly above and below it.
Dimension | Inpatient Psychiatric | PHP | IOP | Outpatient |
Where you live | Hospital, 24/7 | Home, attend daily | Home, attend 3 days/wk | Home |
Hours per week | 24/7 (168 hrs) | 30 (6 hrs × 5 days) | 9 (3 hrs × 3 sessions) | 1-2 |

Relapse and rehospitalization risk are elevated in the first 30 days after psychiatric discharge, which is why PHP step-down is standard clinical practice during that stabilization window. |
PHP is the right step down from psychiatric hospitalization. Relapse and rehospitalization risk are elevated in the first 30 days after psychiatric discharge, which is why PHP step-down is standard clinical practice during that stabilization window.
PHP is the right step up from outpatient when symptoms have escalated to a point where weekly therapy is not keeping up. Adults stepping up to PHP often complete 2 to 4 weeks before transitioning back down through IOP.
Residential mental health treatment is a separate option not offered at our Delray Beach facility. Residential is 24-hour care without medical hospital staffing, typically running 30 to 90 days. Residential makes sense when home is not a safe or supportive environment for recovery. PHP works for adults with a stable home base.
Most adults at Villa do not end mental health treatment at PHP discharge. PHP is the highest intensity step in a longer treatment plan that steps down through lower-intensity care.
The typical pathway runs: PHP (2 to 4 weeks), then IOP (8 to 12 weeks), then outpatient therapy and medication management (3 to 6 months), then maintenance therapy. Total active treatment commonly runs 6 to 10 months for depression and anxiety, and 9 to 18 months for trauma-focused work. The full Villa program is outlined on our mental health treatment page.
Step-down timing is set by clinical recommendation, not a fixed calendar. Most adults transition out of PHP when daily clinical structure is no longer required for safety or stabilization, and they can hold gains with three sessions per week of IOP instead. Discharge planning starts early in PHP and continues throughout, so the transition to IOP is built into the treatment plan rather than negotiated at the last minute.
We do not require you to complete IOP and outpatient at Villa after PHP. If you have an established outpatient therapist or psychiatrist, we coordinate discharge and medication handoff directly with them.
When you walk through our doors, you become part of the Villa family. Our dedicated team treats you with respect, dignity, and understanding. We know that seeking help takes courage, and we’re honored to be part of your healing journey.
Villa Behavioral Health’s PHP serves adults across South Florida from our Delray Beach facility in Palm Beach County. Most admissions come from Palm Beach County and Broward County.
PHP requires daily Monday-Friday in-person attendance, so service area is constrained by realistic daily commute. Adults in the following areas are within a routine PHP commute from our facility: Delray Beach, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth, West Palm Beach, Wellington, Lantana, Highland Beach, Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach, Coral Springs, and Coconut Creek.
For adults outside daily-commute range, our intensive outpatient program (3 days per week) is the more practical level of care.
We are in-network with Aetna, Cigna, and Florida Blue for PHP at our Delray Beach, FL facility. Most commercial insurance covers partial hospitalization for mental health under the behavioral health benefit, with parity required by the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act.
PHP requires pre-authorization on every commercial plan. Our admissions team handles the pre-authorization request, the initial authorization, and all continued-stay reviews. You do not interact with your insurance carrier directly during this process.
Most adults entering PHP with an in-network carrier pay only their plan’s coinsurance after the deductible is met. Out-of-pocket cost varies by plan. We do not accept Medicare, Medicaid, or HMO plans.
For self-pay or out-of-network, exact pricing is discussed during admissions before any clinical commitment. Out-of-network reimbursement is available on many PPO plans; we provide superbills and help with claims submission.
To verify your benefits, submit the form at the top of this page or call (833) 302-2533. Phone verification takes about 15 minutes. There is no cost to verify and no obligation to enter treatment.
Partial hospitalization (PHP) is a structured daytime mental health treatment program where adults attend treatment 6 hours per day, Monday through Friday, and return home each evening. PHP is more clinically intensive than weekly outpatient therapy or intensive outpatient (IOP) but less intensive than inpatient psychiatric admission. PHP is used for adults whose mental health symptoms need daily clinical care without requiring 24-hour hospital staffing.
Most adults complete PHP at Villa in 2 to 4 weeks, depending on clinical response and insurance authorization. Length is set by clinical recommendation, not a fixed calendar. Discharge planning starts early and the typical step-down is into IOP at Villa for an additional 8 to 12 weeks.
Inpatient psychiatric care is 24-hour care inside a hospital, used for adults in active crisis or unable to maintain safety outside a hospital setting. PHP is structured daytime care while you live at home and return each evening. PHP is the typical step-down from inpatient discharge, providing the daily clinical contact that supports stabilization during the first 30 days after discharge, when relapse risk is elevated.
PHP is 6 hours per day, 5 days per week. IOP is 3 hours per session, 3 days per week. PHP is more clinically intense and is typically used immediately after psychiatric hospitalization or when symptoms substantially interfere with daily functioning. IOP is used when weekly therapy is not enough but daily clinical structure is not required. Most adults step down from PHP to IOP after 2 to 4 weeks.
Usually no, not at full-time intensity. PHP runs 6 hours per day Monday through Friday during business hours, so most adults take a temporary leave from work during PHP. The Family and Medical Leave Act covers mental health treatment for most employees at companies with 50 or more employees, and our case management team helps with FMLA paperwork.
Most commercial insurance covers partial hospitalization for mental health under the behavioral health benefit. Coverage at parity with medical care is required by the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act. We are in-network with Aetna, Cigna, and Florida Blue. PHP requires pre-authorization, which our admissions team handles. Verification of your specific plan benefits takes about 15 minutes by phone.
Yes. Our psychiatric medical team is led by Dr. Courtney Scott, MD. You meet with a psychiatric provider during PHP, with frequency adjusted based on medication needs. Medication review and adjustment is a routine part of PHP, especially during the first two weeks.
PHP is typically the right next level of care after psychiatric hospitalization. Our admissions team coordinates directly with your inpatient discharge planner to maintain continuity of medication, therapeutic approach, and safety planning. PHP at Villa is the most common step-down destination for adults discharging from inpatient psychiatric admission.
